We are Unite North West 389

Founded in 1976, we are one of many Unite branches situated across the region. We work to ensure that the issues that matter to our members are heard – such as decent jobs, pay, conditions, pensions, and safety – to build a better life for working people and their families across Greater Manchester.

The Not-For-Profit sector has changed considerably over the last few years; continued austerity, the decline of the public sector, precarious funding and competitive tendering has added to the many challenges the sector faces. These include charities, campaigning organisations, professional bodies, trade unions, advice and legal bodies, youth and play workers, housing associations, faith organisations, non-departmental public bodies, funding agencies and many other workplaces, from the very large to those that employ only one or two people.

In the face of such challenges our branch has supported the launch of Right to Remain in Manchester and have a long history of supporting local migrant solidarity groups including Manchester Migrant Solidarity Action, Women Asylum Seekers, Together Manchester and African Rainbow Family. We also have delegates to Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Trafford and Rochdale Trade Councils and are affiliated with Constituency Labour Party’s across Greater Manchester.

We hope to recruit more workplace representatives so more members have a first point of call in the workplace. If you work in either the community, youth or not for profit sectors then we are keen to hear for you. Please do follow us on Facebook and Twitter for all our latest news. If you have any further questions do not hesitate to get in touch via our contact us page, or better still come along to one of our monthly meetings.
